I Remain So Much of Me
Please don’t ask if I remember,
Don’t assume I understand;
When my mind begins to flounder,
Simply smile and hold my hand
Show our photos, play our music;
This brings joy! Such luxuries!
All those songs! so therapeutic,
They restore my memories.
Sometimes I’ll sit in silence,
Other days, a wandering soul;
In those moments of your presence,
I’m revived. I’m almost whole.
Do not scold me when I’m crying,
Change the subject, if you will;
I can’t help it, though I’m trying,
Please be gentle, ever still
With my memory partly vanished,
There remains so much of me;
Gaze inside my eyes and listen,
You’ll uncover much of me!
